Who Said This?

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

You’ll never believe it:

The Democrats are the party of slavery and were the party that started every war in the 20th century, except the other Bush debacle. The Federal Reserve, permanent federal income taxes, not one but two World Wars, Japanese concentration camps, and not one but two atom bombs dropped on the innocent citizens of Japan — all brought to us via the Democrats.

Click this link to find out.  I never agree with that person, and I still don’t on a lot of things, but even a broken clock is right twice a day, right?

How Kennedy And His Pedophiles Weakened The Child Safety Bill

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

By Rev. Ted Pike

Last Thursday on the O’Reilly Factor, Bill O’Reilly and John Walsh (“America’s Most Wanted” host) rebuked Sen. Edward Kennedy for delaying a piece of legislation that would help protect America’s children from pedophiles. Kathie Lee Gifford has also spoken up, demanding speedy passage of this pro-family legislation.

For the past two sessions of the Senate, Kennedy has blocked this legislation, insisting that his homosexual-favoring “anti-hate” bill be attached to it.

O’Reilly, Walsh, and all sane Americans are right to be furious with Kennedy. His cold decision to put politics ahead of children is the work of a scumbag.

But, actually, the story gets a whole lot darker. What Kennedy’s critics don’t know is that he hasn’t just delayed the bill. To please his pedophile backers, Kennedy has already gutted and defanged this child-protecting legislation!

Here’s the whole incredible story.

On Michael Moore’s Sicko

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

One of my favorite websites is moorewatch.com and is on my links to the side.  This is the best place on the web to get the facts that Michael Moore leaves out of his docutainment.  As a result of Sicko coming out I have read and learned a great deal about the healthcare industry in America and elsewhere.

I have seen Sicko and reviewed several parts of it to verify some of the claims made on moorwatch.com.  Like all Michael Moore films there are a lot of half-truths, mis-represented facts, and probably a few outright lies.

To illustrate these points I’ll break down a couple scenes in the film that Moore clearly exploits and misleads his viewers with.

The first one is on the subject of moorewatch.com itself.  In this link, JimK breaks down the entire controversy concerning one of the final scene in sicko where Moore reveals he provided JimK and his family with $12,000 to pay for health insurance premiums.  The film splices together different, un-related posts on the webiste to mislead viewers into thinking Moore saved the website from closing down.  As illustrated in the link, that is not the case.

In another misleading part of the film, Moore makes the viewer believe that a health insurance company, Kaiser, was responsible for an 18 month old girl’s death because the hospital in which the ambulance took her was an “out of network” hospital and the insurance company would not allow testing to be done on the child.  What Moore neglects to tell the viewer is that by federal law all Hospitals are required to treat all patients that are in need of emergency medical care.  The doctor treating the child broke the law and a court found that this was the case.  There is more to that story that can be read here.  Also, this is the same hospital that recently let a person die on their emergency room floor.  This is a government run hospital(Moore doesn’t tell you that, either).

Those are just two examples.  There are many more at moorewatch.com.

The purpose of Moore’s movie is twofold: to illustrate that there is a problem with healthcare in America and to shock the viewer with heart breaking stories that America would be better off with socialized medicine.

I agree there is a problem with healthcare in America but I don’t think socialism is the answer.  The government seems to cause more problems than it solves when it gets involved situations that involve a few thousand people, let alone 300 million.  Look at hurricane Katrina, Walter reed, congress, and the hospital I mentioned above.  Is that who we want to be responsible for our well being?  Not me, I want to be responsible for myself, the government is not my mom.  Liberals do not know what is best for me.

Perhaps the greatest disservice that Moore does that he delegitimizes his message by misrepresenting facts. As important an issue as healthcare is why should we seek answers to a problem from someone who deceives people into their point of view? We don’t need Michael Moore to sugar coat a turd. If Universal Healthcare has to be misrepresented to make it appealing to the general public then I don’t think it has a place in America’s society.

It is good that Moore is raising the issue to the public at large, but because he distorts everything I think people will see Moore as a snake oil salesman and Moore will do further damage to reforming healthcare than he will do to help it.

Lastly, check out Moorewatch.com often.  They have a great breakdown on a lot of falsehoods in Sick as well as staying up to date on happenings in the main stream media with Moore spreading more mis-represented facts on CNN and other places.

Coulter, Edwards and Codependency

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

Last week marked another round in the seemingly endless feud between conservative firebrand Ann Coulter and Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards.  Many on the Left view this as a one-dimensional morality play pitting Good (Edwards) against Evil (Coulter).  I have a much different take on it.

Ann Coulter has made her mark on the political landscape as a conservative “shock jock,” sort of a blonde Howard Stern in a mini-skirt (am I dating myself with that term?).  Her comments about radical Muslims would have gotten her beheaded (or worse) in Copenhagen or Amsterdam, and her personal invectives against the widows of 9-11 victims known collectively as the “Jersey Girls” were so incredibly cruel and insensitive that even Michelle Malkin and Laura Ingraham  distanced themselves from them.

Why does she do this?  The cynic in me says it’s just to sell books.  Since many of her media appearances are in conjunction with the release of a new book (or the paperback edition of an old one), and since she has had a fairly large number of best-selling works, the easy conclusion to draw is that there’s a cause and effect.  The old adage that there’s no such thing as bad publicity may hold true in the short run, but Coulter’s books wouldn’t consistently sell like they do if they weren’t well written and meticulously researched.  The gratuitous barbs that are thrown in get her the attention, but the quality of her work gives her the staying power.

Another reason may be because her outrageous comments tweak the Left.  Like the Right’s visceral reaction to Rosie O’Donnell and Michael Moore, if Ann Coulter’s comments are designed to send liberals into fits of apoplexy, she does not disappoint.  She can play the Left like a fiddle any time she opens her caustic mouth.

How does Coulter get away with all this?  I believe there are at least two reasons:  1) Her physical attractiveness.  Like the villians in the movie ”Mean Girls,” Coulter may be cruel, but at least her svelt body, long legs, flowing locks and pleasant face are easier on the eyes than a Rosie O’Donnell or Michael Moore; and 2) Her timing.  Unlike Rosie, Ann knows how to sneak on the scene, throw her bomb, and high tail it into the tall grass before the public tires of her.  O’Donnell’s constant exposure on the TV show “The View” and her inability to shut up were her ultimate undoing.

Coulter has taken on her share of liberal icons over the years, but  no one person has been the brunt of  more of Coulter’s scathing attacks than John Edwards.  Whether it’s his penchant for capitalizing on personal tragedy or his near obsession with his personal appearance, Coulter has pulled no punches in her attacks on Edwards.  The context of two recent swipes (the “faggot” comment and the assassination wish) each contained a meta-message that was at once ignored and/or discounted by the media and the Left.  In the former, Coulter was poking fun at the ridiculous promise of actor Isaiah Washington to go into rehab to deal with his “homophobia” (Washington recently admitted that the whole thing was made up to put him back in the good graces of politically correct Hollywood).  In the latter, she was alluding to the Bill Maher’s comments that had the jihadists’ attempt to assassinate Vice President Cheney, it might not have been a bad thing.  The latter meta-message was clearly expressed by Coulter in the context of her comments; the former was so obtuse that even many conservatives missed it.

This time, faced with a floundering campaign, the Edwards camp decided to fight back.  During an appearence by Coulter on MSNBC’s Hard Ball, Elizabeth Edwards called and all but told Coulter to stop exercising her First Amendment rights.  Coulter asked her a very important question, for which Mrs. Edwards didn’t have a believable answer.  Why was it she, and not her candidate husband, who called?

The answer is obvious:  In the public’s eye, Edwards could have been perceived as the male bullying the female.  He also could have run the risk of giving Coulter’s comments more importance than they should have had for someone who would be leader of the Free World.  But Elizabeth Edwards was the perfect foil for Coulter.  Not only was this the kind of female-to-female cat fight that plays well in venues like mud wrestling, in the eyes of the Left, Elizabeth had the same unassailability as Cindy Sheehan and the Jersey Girls before her.  How dare anyone engage poor Mrs. Edwards in a fair exchange of ideas?  After all, she has the double whammy of losing a loved one and suffering from cancer.

But the Edward campaign didn’t stop there.  Coulter was too good an opportunity so close to the end of the second quarter of political fundraising.  So he did what he knows best from his days as a medical malpractice plaintiffs’ attorney:  he played to the sympathies of the “jury” of potential contributors for his campaign’s financial gain.  Coulter played the role of the arrogant doctor to his “client’s” (Elizabeth’s) pain and suffering.  They even posted video clips of Coulter on their website to drum up contributions.

Why was this so important?  Because the Edwards campaign is in deep trouble.  Hillary Clinton has gravitas, but her political baggage of eight years as co-president is a liability.  Obama is a political lightweight, but at least he has the charisma to inspire potential voters.  Edwards has neither gravitas nor charisma.  And to make matters worse, Bill Richardson, the candidate with the most impressive resume in the field from years of legislative, executive and diplomatic experience, was breathing down the neck of Edwards.  When the fundraising numbers came in, Edwards had raised around $9 million to Richardson’s $7 million.  So depending on who’s rating these things, Edwards hung on by his finger nails to the bottom of the first tier, and Richardson had to settle for the top of the second tier.

Would Richardson have outdone Edwards were it not for the Coulter bounce in contributions?  Will sales of the paperback version of Coulter’s “Godless” benefit as a result of the publicity she received?  We may never know for sure.  But both Coulter and Edwards are playing off of each other in a classic example of codependency.

In a recent interview with the New York Times, Elizabeth Edwards said the following:

“It was Nietzsche or Kierkegaard who said you have to believe in something so strongly that you don’t acknowledge another’s point of view: That’s what real belief is.”

There was a moment of silence on the telephone. “Now I don’t go that far,” Mrs. Edwards said.

You and John had better not, Elizabeth.  That would be biting the hand that feeds your coffers.

UPDATE:  In the spirit of reconciliation and to assuage any unfounded fears, I’m changing one word in my paraphrase of the Orson Welles quote.  If you compare it to the original quote by Welles, I think you’ll agree it makes for a better analogy, too.

Safety vs Politics: Democrats Choose Politics

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

This is nothing new to conservatives paying attention to national politics as evidenced by the politics being played with soldiers lives in regards to the Iraq war.

That aside, be sure and read this article.  To summarize: democrats in Florida want to remove the Emergency Broadcast System from a radio station because they give airtime to Rush Limbaugh.

I am not saying Republicans or whoever else could make better decisions or what have you, but please, if there are examples of this kind of behavior from a Republican or conservative, let me know.

On another note I could probably write 5 or 6 paragraphs on democrats shutting out other views and free speech restrictions but I have no evidence of that in regards to this specific situation.  And, because I am not liberal, I couldn’t get away with making up my own evidence to support whatever agenda I felt like supporting at the time.

Dem Presidential Candidate Calls Hillary Out

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

Watch this youtube clip of the most recent democrat debates.  Most of the video is not relevant but other videos out there do now show the context of the comments I want to highlight.

At least on this issue Mike Gravel can see the forest for the trees and calls out the other stooges on stage characterizing the War on Iraq as solely Bush’s war.  At least Obama wasn’t around to vote on it so he has deniability, but then again, he didn’t call Hillary on here propaganda spewing either.

Showcases of Liberal Dishonesty: Skewing Views on Self Defense

Tuesday, May 8th, 2007

One thing that grinds my gears is the seemingly intentional misrepresentation of conservative’s position that gun-free zones should not exist on college campuses and other areas.  The conservative position is that individuals who posses a concealed carry license should be allowed to carry on campus.  Some conservatives go so far as to say that it should be mandated that Teachers be armed.

Liberals, such as Greg Sagan, misrepresent this position.  They think that when I say gun-free zones shouldn’t exist that I mean all students and teachers should be issued a firearm for carrying on campus.  If that were the case I would agree with the liberal assertion that campuses would be more dangers, but being that the liberal interpretation of my position is a falsehood I think my actual position would make the campus safer.

Persons with a concealed carry license, in Texas at least, are required to have 10 hours of training with the handling of firearms and Texas laws on concealed carry and use of deadly force.   Whether or not that much training is adequate for people to be relied upon to act responsibly in high stress situation is debatable.  I would say they need more training.  This situation is kind of like how an individual can take a course and get their motorcycle license but they are not ready to be among the traffic, safely riding a motorcycle.

I believe, with adequate training, people should be able to carry almost anywhere they choose.  I agree that some places should be off limits such as in the courtroom as Sagan suggested.  I am undecided on whether or not to allow concealed carry in a 51% type place.  I would imagine someone carrying concealed would be disallowed to consume alcohol, but how is a bartender to know?

Where I think the law should change would be to allow people with adequate training be allowed to carry their concealed firearms onto educational institutions.  Texas law forbids this currently.

Mr. Sagan does need to bone up on his handgun laws, however.  He asserts that Churches and hospitals should be a sanctuary and “must be free of everyone’s gun.”  (Wasn’t VT a “sanctuary” before that terrible Monday last April?  As I have asserted here and elsewhere, that kind of thinking gets people killed.  Yes, those places will be sanctuaries from other law abiding citizens, but unless people are allowed to protect themselves lunatics will prey on sanctuaries)  Anyway, Texas Law says people can carry concealed into a church, hospital, or amusement park unless a special sign is posted stating otherwise.

So not only does Sagan not want people with adequate training be responsible for themselves but also for handgun laws to be more restrictive than they already are.

Is Civility Dead?

Friday, May 4th, 2007

Everyone is familiar with the Imus incident, but yesterday morning (hopefully former) radio talk show host Michael McGee in Milkaukee even outdid Imus, saying that he was glad that the 87-year-old mother of Charlie Sykes (a rival talk show host) died in a house fire:

http://michellemalkin.com/archives/007450.htm

I find this comment in the same league as what Rivethead (a/k/a Clint), one of our local bloggers in Amarillo, wrote a few months ago:

http://www.ivorydome.us/2007/02/27/par-for-the-course-for-liberals/

What is wrong with these people?

UPDATE(by Bodacious): Vyse, a co-worker of Rivethead/Clint (possibly even Clint) at AQHA, has defended Clint’s personal attack against me in the comment section of this post.  Be sure and witness real, unhinged liberalism perpetrated by this villan.

Taking the Cleaners to the Cleaners

Thursday, May 3rd, 2007

Have you ever taken your pants to the dry cleaners, either for cleaning or alterations, and they ended up losing your pants?  How much to you think they should reimburse you?  The price of the pants?  Maybe a little more for the inconvenience?

How about $65,462,500?

That’s how much DC Administrative Law Judge Roy Pearson, Jr. is suing Custom Cleaners for.  Here’s the story:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/25/AR2007042502763.html?hpid=news-col-blogs

Custom Cleaners is owned by Ki, Jin and Soo Chung, Korean immigrants residing in Virginia.  If I were Judge Pearson, in light of recent events, I’d be very careful not to alienate any Korean immigrants living in Virginia.

Judge Peason was appointed to a two-year term in his current position on May 2, 2005.  He’s now due for a 10-year appointment.  After you’ve read the Washington Post article linked above, you might want to ”Ask the Director” of the Office of Administrative Hearings whether Judge Pearson’s abuse of the justice system is appropriate for someone in his position of authority.  Here’s a link to the form:
