Time to Invest in Some Ivory Dome T-Shirts

Monday, August 7th, 2006

Here is the Amarillo Globe News’ photo gallery of the KKK rally.  Check out photo number 21.  I am the guy with the white hat and grey t-shirt.   Just think, if I had our website in decent size bold letters there might be som traffic here thanks to the AGN.

I have been thinking of getting some t-shirts anyways.  Now I just have an even better reason to.  First I get free publicity from the Amarillo Independant and now I missed this opportunity.  I guess maybe I could have made an anti KKK sign.

Update:  Here is the first draft.  I might update it to include a quote of some kind on the back as well as make one with a white base and black font just in case someone doesn’t want a black shirt.

Update: I have done some more work on modifying the above shirt design.  I changed to font of the I on the front and added an Abraham Linoln quote to the back.

Please let me know what you think.  Oh, and I did try and get the ivorydome.us larger, but it wraps the text or is unreadable if it gets to be any larger than that.

Community Unity Day

Sunday, August 6th, 2006

At the same time the Ku Klux Klan was holding their rally downtown, another rally was being held at Martin Luther King Park:  the First Annual Community Unity Day.

This event was organized by the Amarillo Chapter of the NAACP, with help from other local groups, such as Christian Heritage Church and Amarillo National Bank.

Politics were conspicuously absent from the festivities; I felt totally comfortable and welcome as a white conservative Christian.  The only exception to this apolitical atmosphere was a small group of half a dozen or so young white folks, sitting on the grass with two signs, both of which read, “Want to talk politics?”  Normally, I’m up for a good debate, but on this occasion, I just wanted to enjoy the party.  With a broad smile on my face, I responded that this is a day of unity – today there’s no Republican or Democrat, no liberal or conservative, so no thank you.

The overriding theme of the festivities was patriotic and spiritual in nature.  The program began with an invocation by a local black pastor, followed by an integrated color guard from the Girl Scouts, and the singing of God Bless America.  Speakers included Commissioner Paul Harpole (who was serving as Mayor pro tem, since Mayor McCart was out of town), State Senator Kel Seliger, Amarillo National Bank president Richard Ware, a member of the local Buddhist temple and a young pastor from Dallas who was friends with Brian Denecke.  Most of the music was provided by local churches, with one notable exception:  Audriana Gutierrez.  This talented teenager did a great rendition of the Selena hit Biddy-Biddy-Bum-Bum, as well as a moving a cappella rendition of the National Anthem.

The mood was markedly festive in nature.  There was free food and water, as well as dunking pool for the kids.  One of the things that really struck me was the older people (both black and white) that attended.  Having heard stories of the bad old days of segregation in Amarillo, I couldn’t help but think about what they had lived through, and how far this city has come in the last 50 years or so, although I’m sure there’s still a ways to go.  I’m sorry now that I didn’t bring my wife’s digital camera;  there were some great visual opportunities.

There was much talk about making this an annual event.  I personally hope this happens; there needs to be more of this kind of coming together.

The KKK Rally Downtown

Sunday, August 6th, 2006

The KKK rally was quite eventful, I thought.  There were lots of people there inlcuding observers, supporters, and counter protestors.

noise makers This is one of the first photos I took as the people coming to shout down the KKK were marching in from the post office.

This Character was the most notable individual of the bunch.character

This is one of the first shots of the Klan I got just before their gathering started.  Notice the pregnant woman.klan

Helping them out was this little boy.boy

The KKK had to be behind two layers of 8ft tall chain link fence.

Proof of the lack of credibility these people had is their frequent use of the Nazi Salute. group salutesalute 2

I would say the most tense moment was when a group of supporters surrounded one of the noise makers.  He stood his ground, though.group2

More supporters.

supporters2The woman in pink had her hand up and I missed it.  They were joined by another supporter and were soon mobbed.

There were lots of signs and lots of noise makers doing everthing they could to shout down the kkk.

If anyone knows who or what MEL is I would like to know.

Best of all there were plenty of police ready for action.

At one point they were called in to break up the pulsing crowd before it got out of hand.police2

In the end, when the KKK was packing their stuff up, the people followed them down to shout at them.end

Overall I am glad this event has concluded.  The words spoken at the event by the KKK members prove that they have not evolved past their original roots from back in the 1920s and before.  I was astounded to see any supporters there.

KKK Rally This Wekend

Friday, August 4th, 2006

This Saturday a KKK group from San Angelo will be at city hall protesting illegal immigration.  If previous news reports are any indication this will be quite the event.  In the paper today there is word that there is going to be a counter protest held to shout down the KKK and their message.

Alternatively, there is another gathering, organized by the NAACP as a counter to the KKK rally called the Community Unity Day Celebration, at the Dr. Marting Luther King park Amarillo blvd at the same time.  I am going to try to cover both, time permitting.

Both events are from 3 to 5 pm and the shout down rally starts at 2 and gathers at the post office.

I am going to be on hand to provide photos and commentary of the event which I will post here Sunday evening.

This One is for Clint

Wednesday, June 14th, 2006

Over at PTS a BDS suffering commenter who calls himself clint is whaling that either me or Celtictexan respond the the “August 6th PDB.” In effort to get him to shut his trap, because I know he reads this site, I will respond to this request.

The August 6th PDB is a Presidential Daily Briefing from August 6th 2001 entitled “Bin Laden Determined to Strike Inside the United States”. BDS sufferes use this as proof that either Bush knew 9/11 was going to happen and he did nothing about it or simply that Bush did nothing about it.

Simple google searches can turn up the text of this memo, here is one. Notice that in the text of the memo hijacking planes with the intent of running them into the WTC does not exist.

BDS sufferes want only to convict Bush of the crime of being negligent, but as the memo states, intelligence exists of Bin Laden wanting to attack the US since 1997. Surely people were aware of Bin Laden’s intent prior to Bush being in office, I mean, with the WTC attacks in ‘93 and the millineum bomb plot being backed by Al-Qaeda and all. Why do the BDS sufferers not want to hold Clinton accountable? Maybe that is what makes the BDS sufferers.

Furthermore, in response to this memo, Condi Rice had this to say: “The FAA issued at least five civil aviation security information circulars to all U.S. airlines and airport security personnel, including specific warnings about the possibility of hijacking.”

Here is a experpt from the link above

Q: Did the PDB item include any warning of the 9-11 attack? No. The only recent information concerning possible current activities in the PDB related to two incidents. There is no information that either incident was related to the 9-11 attacks. The first incident involved suspected “recent surveillance of federal buildings in New York.” This information was based on a report that two Yemeni men had been seen taking photographs of buildings at Federal Plaza in New York. The FBI later interviewed the men and determined that their conduct was consistent with tourist activity and the FBI’s investigation identified no link to terrorism. The second incident involved a call made on May 15, 2001 by an unidentified individual to the U.S. Embassy in the UAE “saying that a group of Bin Ladin supporters was in the US planning attacks with explosives.” The caller did not say where or when the attacks might occur. o On May 17, 2001, the NSC’s counterterrorism staff convened the Counterterrorism Security Group, whose members include State, DoD, JCS, DoJ, FBI, and CIA, and reviewed the information provided by the caller. o The information was also shared with Customs, INS, and FAA. o The PDB article advised the President that CIA and FBI were investigating the information. o We had no information, either before or after 9/11, that connects the caller’s information with the 9/11 attacks.

What should Bush have done with all of this non-specific information?

…3 people did a search for “amarillo independent” and what came up was mostly stuff for AISD but what also came up on the 6th link down was a link to this website, specifically my post welcoming readers of the Amarillo Independant, a new progressive newspaper here in our local area. If you recall I had a photo of myself published and in that photo was a link to this website.

The new newspaper does not yet have a website but in the meantime I will gladly volunteer the opinions on this page as a substitute for people’s google searches.

Welcome, one and all, readers of the Amarillo Independent.

Counter Protesting the Protest

Thursday, May 4th, 2006

On Saturday, April 29, 2006, at about 10am, I counter protested an anti-war protest after learning about the event from the “Truth” squad and another local activist group’s website. I got the idea from one of my favorite websites (although the forums aren’t very flattering) http://www.protestwarrior.com/. I created, from their site, what I thought would be a suitable counter protest sign, donned my authentic Iraqi smagh as well as my USMC issue cammies, and hit the streets.
Truth be told, I was quite nervous, as I had never participated in an event like that ever before. Also, I was disappointed because I was the youngest person there. I thought for sure there would be some misguided college students there. However, I soon realized that any college student of the liberal persuasion would be fast asleep at 10 am. The only attendees, besides me, were old hippies from the Vietnam era. Of course there were a few others there, but for the most part, old hippies were the composition of the crowd.
I stood among their signs, blending in at first. What I assume is the organizer of the event approached me, shook my hand and I shook his, he read my sign and I read his, and we smiled. He asked me how I was and I told him I was fine. I told him thank you for not asking me to leave. He said, “We all have our own opinions.” I told him I respected his efforts and his opinion and that I was out here being the voice of opposition, to make the playing field somewhat fair and balanced.
The event continued and I was taken many a picture of, by one photographer and a couple of video cameras. I found out later I was on the evening news. After that all the hippies went and sang songs and read poetry. It was very strange. My brother in law showed up at about 10:45 after I invited him out there. I stayed there until about 11:30 and as some other people left I left as well.
After the event I had regretted making the sign I did and wished I had made another one. I had to explain to my brother and another anti-war person there what the sign meant. I think other people there were of that persuasion as well. As a result, the next one of these I go to I am going to make a different sign that will be more clear cut as to what its meaning is.

To Prove A Point

Sunday, April 23rd, 2006

Hehehe, concerneing my most recent post over at PTS, this is what was said about me:

You’re an idiot.

It is that type of mentality that got me thinking the other day.

I hear from time to time people complaining about more people watching American Idol or MTV more than they watch the news or are familiar with the goings on of politics, characterize them as idiots, and as a result, make poor decsions when it comes to important elections. I am sure there was a lot of this after the 2000 elections. I know there was a bunch of it after the 2004 elecitons.

Well, I don’t even have full cable, 20 channels, no MTV there. I loathe American Idol and I have this blog where I post my opinion on politics. So because I pay attention to politics, and attempt to make an informed decision, but I am a conservative, does that make me still an idiot, but one notch above the MTV zombies?

Writing this has stirred up a lot of other memories, too. I disagree with a lot of stuff Bush does, and I wish there were better candidates in 2004, but, as far a politics goes, November 3rd 2004 was one of the greatest days of my life.

Oh yes concerning the title, I was genuinely being inquisitive over at PTS when I posted my comment asking a) if they were concerned about Iran having nukes, and b) what their plan is for stopping Iran from having nukes. Instead, I was told my question was a “straw man” and derided as an idiot.

I am genuinely inqusitive because, from my point of view, it doesn’t seem to me that they are really concerned about Iran having nukes. As I quesioned them in my comment to them, “Are you going to use the line, if the US, Israel, or Pakistan has nukes, Iran should be able to, too?” I know there are alot of liberals who think that, I have heard them say it. If they think that because we or israel have nukes that they shoudl be able to, too, then that tells me that they aren’t concerned if Iran has nukes. If they are concerned Iran has nukes, then I am curios as to what they are going to do about it.

What I Ought Not Do

Saturday, April 22nd, 2006

Over at the Panhandle “Truth” squad a fearmongering post was made detailing some scientists not wanting to use nuclear weapons against Iran if they were to attempt to develop nuclear weapons. I say fearmongering because the last line of the post says, “Stay tuned for World War III.” Now then, I can’t say for sure what the poster meant by that comment, but I am sure it is something loosely along the lines of, “OMG ChimpyMcBushitler is gonna nuke Iran and plunge the world into MAD!”

Before I continue let me say that I do share some of their frustration with the idea of using nuclear weapons on anyone. However, any casual listener of the news would want to consider all of their options when dealing with a lunatic regime such as Iran’s.

Continuing, I think it is safe to conclude that whatever happens with this whole Iraq fiasco, liberals don’t want to for the US to use nuclear weapons against Iraq in any form or fasion. That is a valid point they have and I don’t deride them for it. I even expressed as much in their comments section. However, I posed the question, “What are your plans to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons?”

So far, as of 11pm of April 22, 2006, the question has gone unanswered. Is it me or is there a trend here? Liberals always want to bitch about what doesn’t go their way, but they never offer up a solution to the problem. I don’t like Bush manning the reigns as much as the next guy, but at least he has the testicular fortitude to man them. Also, I am not saying the only solution is to use nukes, either, but I want all options to be on the table. Honestly I think Israel will attack Iran long before we attempt to do anything about it.

The comment following mine, and subsequent comments following it that supported it, were as follows:

Do you honestly fear the Iranians as much as you seem too?

Do you really feel that future leaders of our nation will be unable to face a threat that may or may not come to fruition?

Do you feel the solution must be a violent one that involves the deaths of thousands, or is there a slight possibility that despite the mean spirited retoric of some Muslim leaders we could still reach a peaceful agreement?

I read some of your mean spirited rant on you link and I can see you have a narrow and uninformed view of who liberals are. You imagine we are idiots. You’ve been completely brainwashed by big money mouthpieces. You should meet some liberals and get yourself a little more of an open mind.

You seem to hate liberals, your own countrymen, more than our real enemies. You are a traitor to our nation.

It’s hard to be polite to someone who has so many false impressions about others. You are what is wrong with America sir.

Your party is in control and yet you breed contempt for half of your countrymen. Yet you say liberals are the ones filled with hate and pride…what a hypocrit.

You would gladly deny liberals free speech, but champion the right of a few very wealthy lobbyist to have the voice of thousands.

The right wing message, with it’s billions to spend, with its think tanks and research has managed to find just the right phrases to enrage your sensibilities toward your countrymen. You need to shake off that brainwashing. We are not your enemy sir…liberals are not your enemy.

Please wake up.

Now then, the poster of that comment is free to say what he wants, and I invite him to. However, and as I did in response to what I quoted, was ask him to come over here and talk about what he has a problem with and leave the comments on topic of that post to the “ChimpyMcBushitler is gonns kill us all” post.

Doubtful that he will post here, I will force him to post here by wonderful ctr-c ctrl-v.

So lets tackle this point by point:

Do you honestly fear the Iranians as much as you seem too?

Honestly, I do. I fear for Israel more than I do for myself or my family, however. I feel this way because the leaders of Iran have said this:

“You should make the world understand that Israel is the oppressor and that Israel must be destroyed.” — Ayatollah Ali Meshkini“The Zionist regime is a rotten, dried tree that will be eliminated by one storm.” — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

“Very soon, this stain of disgrace [i.e. Israel] will be purged from the center of the Islamic world – and this is attainable.” — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

“As the Imam said, Israel must be wiped off the map.” — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

“They have fabricated a legend under the name ‘Massacre of the Jews’, and they hold it higher than God himself, religion itself and the prophets themselves.” — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

“(I)f someone were to deny the myth of the Jews’ massacre, all the Zionist mouthpieces and the governments subservient to the Zionists tear their larynxes and scream against the person as much as they can.” — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

“If a day comes when the world of Islam is duly equipped with the arms Israel has in its possession, the strategy of colonialism would face a stalemate because application of an atomic bomb would not leave anything in Israel but the same thing would just produce damages in the Muslim world” — Former Iranian President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani

“Thanks to the blood of the martyrs, a new Islamic revolution has arisen and the Islamic revolution of 1384 [the current Iranian year] will, if God wills, cut off the roots of injustice in the world. The wave of the Islamic revolution will soon reach the entire world.” — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

“Iran’s hardline spiritual leaders have issued an unprecedented new fatwa, or holy order, sanctioning the use of atomic weapons against its enemies.

In yet another sign of Teheran’s stiffening resolve on the nuclear issue, influential Muslim clerics have for the first time questioned the theocracy’s traditional stance that Sharia law forbade the use of nuclear weapons.

One senior mullah has now said it is “only natural” to have nuclear bombs as a “countermeasure” against other nuclear powers, thought to be a reference to America and Israel.

The pronouncement is particularly worrying because it has come from Mohsen Gharavian, a disciple of the ultra-conservative Ayatollah Mohammad Taghi Mesbah-Yazdi, who is widely regarded as the cleric closest to Iran’s new president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.” — The Telegraph

“After his U.N. speech in September, Ahmadinejad was caught on videotape telling a cleric that during the speech an aura, a halo, appeared around his head right on the podium of the General Assembly. “I felt the atmosphere suddenly change. And for those 27 or 28 minutes, the leaders of the world did not blink. . . . It seemed as if a hand was holding them there, and it opened their eyes to receive the message from the Islamic Republic.” — Charles Krauthammer on Mahmoud Ahmadinezhad

“To shouts of “Death to America,” Iran’s parliament unanimously approved the outline of a bill Sunday that would require the government to resume uranium enrichment, legislation likely to deepen an international dispute over Iran’s nuclear activities.” — Associated Press Via Little Green Footballs

“Relations between the west and the hardline Iranian regime are set to worsen after a Tehran-based group claimed yesterday it was trying to recruit Iranians and other Muslims in Britain to carry out suicide bombings against Israel.

The Committee for the Commemoration of Martyrs of the Global Islamic Campaign, which claims to be independent but has the backing of the regime, said it is targeting potential recruits in Britain because of the relative ease with which UK passport-holders can enter Israel.” — The Guardian

“The first target is Israel. For us, that is the battlefield. All the Jews are targets, whether military or civilian. It’s our land and they are in the wrong place. It’s their duty to pay attention to safety of their own families and move them away from the battlefield.” — Mohammad Samadi, spokesman for The Committee for the Commemoration of Martyrs of the Global Islamic Campaign
“Some 10,000 people have registered their names to carry out martyrdom operations on our defined targets. Our targets are mainly the occupying American and British forces in the holy Iraqi cities, all the Zionists in Palestine, and Salman Rushdie.” — Mohammad Samadi, spokesman for The Committee for the Commemoration of Martyrs of the Global Islamic Campaign

“The world of Islam has been mobilized against America for the past 25 years. The peoples call, “death to America.” Who used to say “death to America?” Who, besides the Islamic Republic and the Iranian people, used to say this? Today, everyone says this.” — Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

“God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionism” — President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Do you really feel that future leaders of our nation will be unable to face a threat that may or may not come to fruition?

Not if a Democrat or even a Neo-Con is in power. As poorly as Iraq was handled I shudder to think what would happen if Bush took on the responsibility of Iran. Hopefully some true conservatives can be voted in and we start laying down the law militarily and fiscally. (Sadly, I doubt that will ever happen)

Secondly, I want this problem dealt with today, so my children don’t have to. That, or bear the responsibility as little as possible.

Do you feel the solution must be a violent one that involves the deaths of thousands, or is there a slight possibility that despite the mean spirited retoric of some Muslim leaders we could still reach a peaceful agreement?

When (some) muslims praise a terrorist as a hero and threaten to behead those who draw a picture of muhammed, yah, I feel the solution will have to be a violent one. Not that I want it to be a violent one, but I would rather die in battle fighting for my ideals rather than bending over backwards to appease fanatics.

I read some of your mean spirited rant on you link

Thank you, stop by anytime.

I can see you have a narrow and uninformed view of who liberals are. You imagine we are idiots.

And you, as a liberal, imagine all conservatives are idiots. 6 of one, half a dozen of the other.

Sorry, but I know full well who liberals are. I don’t know what I can say to prove it to you. Why don’t you quiz me?

You’ve been completely brainwashed by big money mouthpieces.

You don’t have to prove to me that you don’t think all conservatives are idiots, that says it righ there. “He has a narrow view of what liberals are, he must be brainwashed!”

My thoughts are my own, sir. I construct as good as an opinoin as I can; that is the main reaosn I frequent PTS and ask questions like I do there.

You seem to hate liberals, your own countrymen, more than our real enemies. You are a traitor to our nation.

Oh yes, call me a traitor. Thats the right thing to do. That is open mindedness right there I tell you! Yes, a decorated US Marines is a traitor to our nation because he has a negative opinion about those he disagrees with.

Hey, if we are going to use your logic, you are a traitor, too! Lets string each other up, count to 3, and we will kick each other’s chair out from under us!

Honestly, you seem to love our enemies more than our own countrymen, from my POV; and I don’t call you a traitor for it, either.

It’s hard to be polite to someone who has so many false impressions about others. You are what is wrong with America sir.

I could say the same to you.

Your party is in control and yet you breed contempt for half of your countrymen. Yet you say liberals are the ones filled with hate and pride…what a hypocrit.

And you know what my party is, how?

Typical liberal, making assumptions.

Hey, by your logic, you’re a hypocrit, too!

You would gladly deny liberals free speech, but champion the right of a few very wealthy lobbyist to have the voice of thousands.

Hahaha, ok, please quote me to where I endorsed that.

The right wing message, with it’s billions to spend, with its think tanks and research has managed to find just the right phrases to enrage your sensibilities toward your countrymen.

The same holds true for the left wing message.

ou need to shake off that brainwashing. We are not your enemy sir…liberals are not your enemy.

I could say the same, but opposite, to you.
