In America our tax system is regressive. As it currently stands the top 50% of the working people (the richest) pay over 96% of all individual income taxes while the lowest 20% pay -6% or so taxes, they get money to be poor.

Because of that I would say, " the burden upon other members of society in terms of funding public services and facilities is unfairly increased" by a very, very large margin as it is.

I agree with you, cheating on your taxes makes it that much worse.

Bodacious,

As a former Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) in Australia, I hold very strong views in relation to the issue of cheating on taxes.

Whilst taxpayers have every right to work within the law to legally minimize their tax contribution, tax evasion, or cheating on your taxes, is simply unethical.

As well as politicians pay, taxes are what pay for public roads, schools, hospitals, public infrastructure and other public services. They are a necessary contribution from all citizens toward the effective functioning of society.

Where individuals cheat on their tax contribution, the burden upon other members of society in terms of funding public services and facilities is unfairly increased.

Picture a person in a team who is not prepared to carry his fair share of the workload, forcing others to shoulder a higher level of burden. That, in my opinion, is the effect of individuals (or companies) who cheat on taxes or welfare payments.

Cheers
