Safety vs Politics: Democrats Choose Politics

This is nothing new to conservatives paying attention to national politics as evidenced by the politics being played with soldiers lives in regards to the Iraq war.

That aside, be sure and read this article.  To summarize: democrats in Florida want to remove the Emergency Broadcast System from a radio station because they give airtime to Rush Limbaugh.

I am not saying Republicans or whoever else could make better decisions or what have you, but please, if there are examples of this kind of behavior from a Republican or conservative, let me know.

On another note I could probably write 5 or 6 paragraphs on democrats shutting out other views and free speech restrictions but I have no evidence of that in regards to this specific situation.  And, because I am not liberal, I couldn’t get away with making up my own evidence to support whatever agenda I felt like supporting at the time.

CSPAN, a tax supported station, aired the Talkers Magazine freedom of speech awards presented to Michael Savage this year. As the acceptance speech and a video about him began to run, CSPAN stopped the camera and went to something else till he was done. CSPAN much like PBS is a liberal controlled org. but again funded by the tax payer.

  2. Curious Texan says:

I heard that Dr. Savage is having DVD’s made of his speech at his own expense and making them available to his listeners.

This whole thing reminds me of the brouhaha about the Democrat candidates refusing to debate on FOX News. Except in that case, the dems only hurt themselves by denying themselves exposure to an audience that includes a substantial number of independents. And as someone once said, if they’re afraid to take on FOX News, why should we think they’d take on the terrorists?

But the two examples that Bo and celtictexan cite adversely affect not only the Democrats, but the public at large. By initially deciding not to broadcast emergency information on the strongest radio station in the area for strictly political reasons (I heard that they’ve since reserved this decision in the face of considerable opposition), they were jeopardizing the safety of all citizens. It would be like Potter or Randall County refusing to broadcast tornado warnings on KGNC because John Terry is too liberal.

The case of the Michael Savage speech is a little more subtle, but no less aggravating. The media has the right to make editorial decisions (usually done for lack of time, space, or resources), but by carrying the entire event with the exception of the Savage speech, the message was clear: we don’t want you to see and hear this.

It’s been said that freedom of the press belongs to those who own a press (the “means of production” in Marxist terms), but in the Information Age, every computer hooked up to the Internet is its own media outlet. That can be incredibly liberating for the masses, but obviously very threatening to the media elites who have enjoyed a monopoly for so long.

The toothpaste is out of the tube (or should I say “YouTube”?). Let’s hope the powers that be don’t find a way to squeeze it back in, through a new “Fairness Doctrine,” selective coverage, or the Final Solution – government censorship. I think we’ve been free for too long to stand for any of that. I just hope I’m right.

  3. celtictexan says:

Yeah to add to what you said CT and Bo don’t forget the fairness in Media crap they are trying to push.

I heard that Dr. Savage is having DVD’s made of his speech at his own expense and making them available to his listeners.

He’s selling them. Michael Wiener (a Jew), aka “Savage” does make me a little suspicious at times, but I do like the guy.

  4. Bodacious says:

Here is the post about the fairness doctrine.

  5. Vyse says:

EBS should be available on all stations, TV and radio.

As far as censorship from the Repugs, the first thing that came to mind is the Bush appointee who edited the studies on greenhouse gasses and their effect on the atmosphere and climate.

Here’s a list of 452 lies, wrong statements, and hypocricies uttered by Limbaugh, himself.

Savage is a racist. If you grown men don’t see Satan working through him to make you hate your fellow man and woman, Riv was right when he told me there’s no hope for you, months ago. Should CSPAN show a klan rally? I don’t think so. I’d have preferred they stay so that the world can see what the right says when they say what they mean.

The guy is a madman, evidenced here 126 times:

There’s your debate, succinct yet more than you deserve.
I’m sure an army of straw men will be coming my way soon.

  6. Bodacious says:

Your example of the Bush administration official is abhorrent, I agree.

I would like to point out that I don’t really care about the lies of Rush or Savage. They are not policy makers whereas the Democrats in the original linked article are. Rush and Savage don’t harm anyone except for possibly their most ardent followers who do anything they say. The Democrats in Broward county would potentially be harming everyone who depended on those radio stations for news in an emergency, all because they don’t like the politics of Rush limbaugh. Surely you see the difference?

Regardless, it is a moot point, the comissioners renewed the contract.

  7. Vyse says:

As I said, “EBS should be available on all stations, TV and radio.”

Hell, I’d like to see it built into cabletv, computers, and game consoles, sans the annoying buzz. Most of my generation doesn’t even watch prime-time TV. The stats show that we’re increasingly more likely to pop in a game or movie than watch CSI : The New Generation or a sitcom.

“Rush and Savage don’t harm anyone except for possibly their most ardent followers who do anything they say. “

    *cough* *cough*

  8. Bodacious says:

What are you inferring by the *cough**cough*? Are you trying to say that we are blind Rush/Savage followers? Please provide some proof if that is the case.

  9. Dio says:

I really have no comment on this subject to be honest. However, Celtic did catch my eye with the Michael Weiner ( a Jew) AKA Savage comment. You like the guy but you make sure to point out he is a Jew. Why? Is there a problem with being Jewish?

It has been a while since i posted. How are you all by the way?

A side thought on the EBS. Do you all recall seeing any EBS warnings during the 9/11 attacks? It was considered a national emergency, correct? I recall watching every news channel and switching every 5 minutes to the next station, but I can’t say i recall the EBS going off. And yes we in Texas were not harmed but there were attacks in at least 3 states, why wasn’t a national warning set off to be televised?

  10. Vyse says:

Yesterday afternoon on my drive home, I heard the Savage spiel. Celtic repeated it nearly verbatim. I strongly suspect the story in this post came from the “stack of stuff.” Amongst the folks I know that read ivorydome.us, Curious really is notorious for repeating Rush the next day with precision.

Would you like me to point out from now on every time you guys repeat a specific falsehood or commentery that I know came from a particular uncited source?

It doesn’t sound very fun, but I’ll do it for a nominal fee.

Anyway, you’re not blind, but we’ve seen the population here “selectively comprehend” things.

    **********

As far as Savage being Jewish (per Celtic), I’ll bet he meant it as a cop-out. “He can’t be racist. He’s a minority.” Thing is, L. Farakhan is a racist and he’s a minority. Celtic would agree with that logic, but now he’ll stay quiet or ignore these parts of the comments since they pin him down and show him for the liar he is.

Just like Glenn Beck, “I’m just a normal guy……just like you…..
I just don’t trust anyone with a “z” at the end of their name. Is that my fault?”

Ignoance isn’t their fault. I blame their dads.

  11. Bodacious says:

I strongly suspect the story in this post came from the “stack of stuff.”

Not the case. I did listen to Rush breifly yesterday but only the couple of minutes where advertisements cut in for about 10 minutes. I didn’t hear anything about this event. The story reached me through a few of the many sites I gather my daily news from.

Anyway, you’re not blind, but we’ve seen the population here “selectively comprehend” things.

Such as? If it regarding “meth abusing child molester” line of conversation then I don’t care to comment.

  12. Vyse says:

A note about curious texan’s outburst:

There really are two people who post from AQHA:

Dio, he’s actually been pretty nice to you guys.

    Vyse, me.

Just thought you all might like to be in on the joke he’s managed to pull on himself by checking our IP’s. They’re identical because we post from the same part of the same network. Even though, we’ve all been on at the same time before they’re positive that all of those identities are me. (Based on Bo’s “informed” analysis.)

You know his site says, he’ll give you a “price qoat for compute problems.”

    Smart feller, right there.

Anyhoo, you just lost 2 more readers.

After speaking this morning: we take your combined craziness x gun show-off posts to equal “don’t risk getting shot in the back by an internet bully.” We really don’t want to be the Crispus Attucks of the Race War you guys are so pumped about.

  13. celtictexan says:

I won’t be quiet much longer, just been busy. What’s with you anyway Clint/Vyse did you remember your ritalin? You seem (for you) fairly decent in the above posts.

  14. Bodacious says:

    Quit drinking cough syrup vyse.

Your baseless accuastions never stop being amusing.

Where have you seen “price qoat for compute problems.”? I think you are full of it.

I won’t miss you or Dio. As before you makes excuses for scumbags and Dio won’t answer questions when pressed effectively adding nothing to the “debate.”

You think two measly left wingers are going to be missed? Look at my stats to the right. We have had more “page loads” in about 10 months (since August of 06 when I moved to here from blogspot) than PTS has had in 3 years. We have 3 authors that on average probably post less than once a week. PTS has 16 and can’t mach us.

Typical leftists. Get your panties in a wad over a joke. It’s too bad we’re not broadcasters or something, you could threaten to sue us and have us fired. Curse that freedom of speech! *rolls eyes*

  15. celtictexan says:

Jews time beginning have been involved in many things that have made nations all over the world hate them. While they have made remarkable contributions to science and medicine, they are primarily involved in usary or loansharking. They are also the primary movers in the porn industry and are the ones who brought the virtual child porn isssue to the SC. Jews are a very complicated issue. A good start is here http://ussliberty.org/ We are in the war we are in primarily because of support of Israel. But again to understand it requires you to take on the task yourself. There is tons of factual history of jews. Just look.

As far as Savage I think him right on most issues. But I also think him very interested in making money.

  16. Curious Texan says:

Luckily, these guys are harmless. Wolves licking blades.

Hey Bo, celtic – What’s this warm red stuff? My tongue kinda hurts, too.

Hey Vyse, if you’re still out there, explain this:

I just discovered this site and felt a bit compelled to make a comment.

    Comment by Dio — May 22, 2007 @ 12:35 pm

    Who is Dio?

So, Dio must have “discovered this site” independently from Vyse on 05/22, because Vyse had no idea who he was for over two weeks, yet they both post from the same part of the same network (ironically, from the same IP address as Clint did, as late as October 2006).

Sometime between 06/07 and today, Vyse put two and two together and realized that one of his co-workers, all by himself, stumbled across Ivory Dome and started posting there, too.

    What a coincidence!

  17. celtictexan says:

Well I’m hoping dio is different, if not, if he’s just another personallity of schizo clint, then he should really try to keep that one out more.

  18. Curious Texan says:

Whether he is or isn’t a persona of Clint, Dio has always been respectful and has stayed focused in his arguments, which is why I potrayed him as the voice of reason in my satire.

Dio, whoever and wherever you are, you’re welcome to post here anytime, as long as you stay as civil as you’ve been.
