Buy A Gun Day

Just recently I learned of this festive day through one of my favorite blogs, “The LawDog Files.” As you know tax day is April 15th.  Buy a gun day is for those of us with an affinity for firearms and a large tax refund.  Mine was plenty large this year, so I purchased an IMI Desert Eagle in .50AE, brushed chrome.  I haven’t fired it yet and the rounds are quite expensive, I am going to look into handloading for it.  This is the 4th handgun in my collection.

The reason I chose this gun is not only for its aesthetic appeal but it can also convert to .44 magnum and .357 magnum.  Another unique feature of this weapon is that it is gas operated as opposed to blow back.  This particular model shoots fifty caliber bullets. That is a full half an inch wide.  I may also use this for hunting if I get proficient enough with the gun.

If you have the means purchase yourself a new or used firearm for this year’s buy a gun day and repeat this process every year!

That is nice I’ve looked at it, and other 50 cal’s, myself. I kind of backed off at the thought of practicallity and the cost and availability of ammo. I didn’t know you were interested in Guns. I have a “small” collection my self. We need to get together and shoot someday.

Unfortunately, because my wife and I are such rich Republicans (two full-time incomes and a military retirement between us), we actually had to pay out >$2K above and beyond our withholdings, so I’ll have to celebrate Buy a Gun Day vicariously through you, Bo.

Actually, I’ve only owned one firearm in my entire life: an AR-15 I bought in Germany in the mid-80’s to maintain my rather meager marksmanship skills(I never qualified higher than Marksman in my 20-year Army career). It wasn’t until after I retired that I discovered my problem – I’m left-eye dominant. For two decades, I was using the wrong eye to aim!

It was funny when I told my liberal brother that I’d bought an AR-15. He replied, “Oh, that’s nice.” I asked him if he knew what an AR-15 was, and he said he assumed it was a camera or something. When I told him it was the civilian equivalent of the M-16, he nearly freaked.

Being enlisted my whole career, I only fired a pistol once, when a friend of mine took me to the pistol range at Fort Ord to fire his revolver. Although my experience with sidearms is pretty limited, it looks like you bought yourself a real nice one. Enjoy!

Right now I have 5 guns and I want a few more. Currently there is that, a 1911 in .45, a glock 19, an sks, and a walther p22. Other stuff I want is an AR-10, M4, a mosin nagant or dragunov, and maybe a .50 cal rifle.

I am planning on handloading rounds, too.

Celtic, where do you go shoot at? Could you get away with shooting on your property?

    Check out AR-15.com. I’ve got a Kimber target Match .45. It’s sweet.

    I have a Ar15 and will probably get the AR10. I do have a remington 700 in .308.

WTSHTF don’t forget that a .22 will most likly be your most important weapon. I have many versions of that.
