Opinion Roundup 11/10/05

First I would like to wish a happy birthday to all of the US Marines out there. Semper Fidelis Marines! OORAH!

Next I would like to do an opinion round up since I have not posted in a while.

Amarillo lives in a bubble the pretty much doesn’t let anything out; almost not matter what it is. For example, there are, and have been in the past, teachers caught and convicted of sexually assaulting a student. None of that ever makes national news, ever. 4 People were murdered in a nearby town and a suspect caught in Arkansas. No mention on national news whatsoever. I am not complaining, just painting a picture.
That being said, from time to time and when relevant I would like to point out some local things that happen here that are ignored on the national level. For example, we had an anti-war protest rally a couple of weeks ago. I had to work so I could not attend, but I would have been quite happy to attend as a protest-warrior bearing a sign pointing out their mistakes and fallacies.
Thanks to the news report detailing the events of the protest I was able to find the Panhandle Truth Squad. If you want a good laugh head on over to their site. The main poster, SPACEDARK, is an avid supporter of the socialist agenda that Cindy Sheehan subscribes to. This is evident because he remarks about “The Revolution,” avidly attacks and labels those he disagrees with, and gives no solution to the problems he complains about. The funniest thing about the people that bog there is that they label themselves as a “Truth Squad” yet perpetrate seemingly endless hate and vitriol towards people who disagree with them. Their hypocrisy is truly astounding. But hey, that is liberalism for you…
Moving on, I am further dismayed by the House putting a stop to the oil drilling in the Arctic. It is my belief that if there is any way we can stick it to “OPEC” and the middle east as far as oil consumption goes then we should be all for it. Drilling up there is a step in the right direction. Also, though, I want to take that attitude a step further and put more into developing more alternative energy sources to help decrease our dependence on foreign oil.
Over in Borger, a measly 40 miles away, plans are being developed to construct an ethanol refinery. The ethanol would be fermented from corn, grown here in the US. The corn after being fermented would be sold to the neighboring beef industry. The ethanol would be sold to gas station to be put into cars and truck. Ford motor company is advertising that all of their vehicles will be ethanol compatible sometime soon. Just think of the possibilities of ethanol.
Republicans are in power and thanks to stuff like this they might not be for very long. If they are in power they need to put that power to use instead of appeasing democrats and liberals.

The Alito nomination is a very good thing. I really don’t think this needs any explanation. Hopefully things like the insane ruling about eminent domain and other stuff just as asinine will be overturned.

I could opine enough to fill a book. I think I have done enough for now. I think the Panhandle Truth Squad will motivate me to post more.
